Save watts while searching

Here is a concept.  All that white on your screen.  Know what it is? Burning crystals is what. White is created by energy exciting the crystals.  Black is no energy exciting the crystals.  A black screen uses no energy.  What if you reversed the fonts on most screens and made them white on black instead of black on white?  How much energy would you save.  Find out at Blackle.com  (google in black)

I think this is only true for LED screens. The majority of screens in world have a light that shines from a spot at the bottom and is reflected against the rest of the screen. The black pixels on the screen are actually blocking the light from behind. So you are not saving any power. Screens like the one on the One Laptop per Child do in fact use less power when the screen is displaying black.

Everyone knows that is only true for CRTs! LCD's use alot of everything stopping the back light (turning it black). About the only reason why I'd use something like blackel (or more correctly, a greasemonkey script to turn google black)... Is if I was feeling the need for a good old terminal session. In which case putty might be slightly easier, than reprogramming google.
