Them's fighting words...

My friend Tom Ryan has become a Branson partisan. Athena Chief Ramblings: Trump's Reality Bites. Branson better. I caught one episode of his show and, like Cuban's show, I found it lacking in drama. I credit much of that to the producers. I mean come on, Mark Burnett is the man in reality TV. You can tell that both Cuban's and Branson's shows are much more about themselves and not produced for a mass audience. Tom does have a point about true entrepreneurship though. Trump comes from the NYC old money turned into more in traditional businesses mold. Branson is more of a shake things up with a big new idea kind of guy. I would prefer to fund the second type of entrepreneurs.

Tom is having problems with commenting, so he posted this to my e-mail.

To quote Stiffler in the movie “American Wedding”:

“Oh, it’s on…like Donkey Kong…beeeeeeyyyyyaaaaatch!!!”

:o)

This is a fun argument. I really think the only real business insights you get on the Apprentice is from the contestants themselves, not from Trump. So yes, Burnett deserves high praise for this, as he gets better contestants, and edits the show and their comments better. Branson’s show last night was the best yet, but I must admit it feels like MTV’s “Real World” producers are in charge, as they tend to focus the testimonials on petty arguments between contestants rather than gaining valuable business insights from them. That being said, Branson is always showing a method to his madness in each case. Plus, he’s giving out a HUGE prize in comparison to Trump – a one million dollar yearly salary and the President of Virgin title (with him as chairman really running things I would guess). The poor guy who won the Apprentice last year only gets $250K and has been trying to get out of his deal with Trump because the Chicago building development wasn’t even locked-in when it was promised to him.

BTW – doesn’t look like I can comment directly on Deep Green Crystals, so this e-mail will have to suffice as my vicious reply back to you. Have a great Thanksgiving! I’m heading down to Portland to hang out with your Beaver buddies…
