Want to read more VC blogs?

More venture capitalist are beginning to post their thoughts on the web. This is a good thing for Entrepreneurs who want to see inside our minds. It is a good practice to check out the musings of a VC (if they have a blog) before you go to pitch them. One run by my friends over at August Capital is...VentureBlog. And of course there is always the Ignition Partners one: GeekFishing

RIAA continues hard ball tactics

I would have thought the music industry was coming around to embracing digital distribution of their works. But no. Still head in the sand. RIAA Plans to Sue Music Swappers (TechNews.com). There is no valid legal alternative on the windows platform to get excited about. Better check which song sharing program you are using and get a more protected one...

You gotta love Donald Rumsfeld<

Was watching CNN the other day and old Rummy came out with a good one. He was trying to define "no brainer". He said "It is a No-Brainer. It takes you three minutes to decide and the first two are for coffee." For a complete list of his rules for life go here... <a title="DefenseLINK News: "Rumsfeld%u2019s Rules" Find Pentagon Readers" href="http://www.defenselink.mil/news/Jan2001/n01232001_200101231.html">DefenseLINK News: "Rumsfeld%u2019s Rules" Find Pentagon Readers

Bush dumps Segway!

I love my Segway. I have never fallen off of it. I tell people it is just like a weeble wobble. Apparently President Bush can break anything. Here he is falling off it! <a title="Yahoo! Power over your Ethernet cable?

I have been thinking about power inventions. Haven't found one suitable to invest in. Cam across a new IEEE task force thinking about delivering power over unused pairs in the standard ethernet cable. Very interesting. IEEE 802.3af DTE Power via MDI Task Force

My movie career

Most of you know that back in the 90's I was the star of an independent feature film called Biker Dreams. Just found an interesting review of it on-line. Motorcycle Online: Biker Dreams

Preferred Stock investing

I have become quite intrigued lately with investing in Preferred stocks as a conservative thing to do in these troubled times. I have picked up a couple initial offerings through my broker. In thinking about buying more in the aftermarket I found this good guide. Introduction to Preferred Stock Investing The key thing seems to be what premium you are paying over the call price versus the coupon rate that yields the effective return rate. Stay away from sectors that could get some cataclysmic event (like airlines). The returns are WAY better than money markets though.

Here is a how-to from MSN. They use the Airport, but say it is only one that works for bridging. <a title="Wi-Fi for Dummies - You want a home wireless network, but you're afraid it won't work. Microsoft fixing patch management

Good summary and some color commentary on what Microsoft is doing to fix patch management in their products by year end. Slashdot | Microsoft Plans An Overhaul For Patch System The problem is that they won't open this up to other vendors or OSes. This guy promoting it is new to Microsoft and came from a consulting firm. He reports to Mundie and not a product group. I wonder if he can really get the product groups to deliver. Sounds like alot of msft promiseware.

Got rats?

Zap 'em with this nifty little gadget. Ratmousezapper ::: Welcome. I had a mouse move in with me when I lived in Greenlake. Noticed it when I pulled out a cereal box one day with a hole in it. In researching the different ways t rid my house of the varmits, I was put off on poison because the little buggers tend to die in the middle of the walls and stink up the house. Ended up going with a traditional trap with peanut butter on it, but then I had to pick up the thing and open the trap. Yick! This little thing looks cool because you never have to touch the things. Being a vegitarian at heart, this is a key feature.

Want to follow IETF on SPAM?

Go here and browse to your heart's content. Anti-Spam Research Group (ASRG) Looks like they are focusing on tightening up SMTP to make it harder to fake e-mail and bake trust into e-mail. That seems like a very long term play though.
